As of 19 May 2021, 4 players have made it to the EPL Hall of Fame – Alan Shearer, Thiery Henry, Eric Cantona and Roy Keane. Baztalks gives their thoughts on it as well. There are 23 names that have been nominated, but we will divert away and name who we think should be included. The 3 conditions set are:
- Not already included in the Hall of Fame
- Already retired from the game
- Players Baztalks grew up watching (Early 00s)
Baz (4-4-2)
GK: Petr Cech – Massive presence for Chelsea in their period of domination, was essentially a wall on his own. 24 clean sheets in a season (2004-05), Most EPL clean sheets – 202.
RB: Gary Neville – Longevity is his draw here. Simple player that was hard to beat, and always gave you an 8/10 shift, most of the time
CB: John Terry – Colossal presence that contributed to Chelsea being unbeaten for 4 years at home. Solid in the air, hard to beat on the ground and leader of men.
CB: Vincent Kompany – his addition to the Manchester City backline arguably provided the base of City’s era. Ever present like terry and a classy defender that is hard to beat.
LB: Ashley Cole – Just like Neville, Cole got the job done at both Chelsea and Arsenal. Part of the Invincibles, part of the Chelsea fortress undeniably the best Left back.
RM: David Beckham – Golden Balls himself. There is no one else who can serve the ball from the wing with his precision. Enough said.
CM: Paul Schloles – Something that fans don’t appreciate is his ability to dictate the tempo of games. He can pick a short pass or a Hollywood pass, it’ll arrive with the gentlest of deliveries. Oh and he has a rocket of a shot.
CM: Steven Gerrard – Mr Liverpool deserves a spot for the sheer effort of carrying the hopes and dreams of a club. Arguably the best all round midfielder the number of times he has won games through sheer will makes him a Hall of Famer.
LM: Ryan Giggs – The evergreen winger burst onto the scene as a youngster with speed and dribbling skills unmatched, and ended as an orchestrator from midfield.
CF: Wayne Rooney – When he burst onto the scene for Everton, he was destined for greateness. A forward who is fueled by passion and his selflessness to accommodate Cristiano shows a team player with a desire to just win. Even when he was having problems, Wayne can be counted on. And he has scored many memorable goals.
CF: Didier Drogba – An absolute unit. Drogba was just a bully in the final third. Crucial to Chelsea’s success and the man for big occasions, if you needed a win, Drogba has to be in.
Mike – The Invincibles. Enough said.
